Finally! A New Line Of Stylers That Won't Weigh Down Fine Hair

There's nothing a fine-haired lady approaches with more trepidation than styling products. That's because most of the sprays, mousses, creams, and tonics on the market that are aimed at taming your mane are too heavy for fine, thin hair. Use the wrong one and you're left with strands that look greasy, limp, and scraggly. Problem is, unless you're biologically gifted with hair that you just roll out of bed with and it looks amazing (we're looking at you, NYC editor Annie Georgia Greenberg), most women have to use something on their hair in order to get it to behave.
Enter Nioxin, one of the most well-known names in thinning hair solutions. The brand recently revamped its entire line of styling products, which are now designed to be layered and cocktailed, allowing the less follicularly blessed among us to get the styles they desire, without worrying about them weighing hair down.
The secret behind these feather-light stylers are two proprietary technologies: Pro-Thick and Lightplex. Pro-Thick — found in the Thickening Spray, Thickening Gel, Bodifying Foam, and NioSpray Extra Hold Hairspray — is a complex of thickening polymers that deposit forming bonds between hair strands to create space and give a thickened appearance. Lightplex technology — found in the Therm Active Protector, Definition Crème, Rejuvenating Elixir, and NioSpray Regular Hold Hairspray – features polymers and lightweight conditioning agents that provide hold and protection without making hair feel stiff.
The hairsprays and Bodifying Foam are available now, and the rest of the line will be on shelves starting in June. For optimal cocktailing, Washington, D.C. hairstylist and Nioxin design team artist Diane Cole Stevens recommends pairing a treatment products like the Rejuvenating Elixir with the Thickening Gel to get both lift and softness. And, if you do nothing else, she urges fine-haired girls to blow dry their roots to help support and hold their style.
Nioxin Lightweight Styling Collection, $14.50-$16.95, available in June at Nioxin for salons.
