Rodarte Shines A Light On Arts Education With Custom Vans

Their gowns may tout four-figure price tags, but Kate and Laura Mulleavy definitely know how to bring their swoon-worthy aesthetic to the masses. Whether it's via a Starbucks coffee mug or a tulle dress from Target, these Pasadena natives know how to mix high with low.
To lend their support to a new initiative, the Rodarte sisters did some serious sole searching with a local legend, creating one-of-a-kind kicks for the Vans Custom Culture competition (though, these babies won't be available for purchase — bummer!). The competition, which aims to inspire students to embrace their inner artist, also raises funds and spreads the good word on creative high-school courses. And, it's not just famous designer siblings who can participate— with just a fresh pair of slip-ons as a canvas, art enthusiasts are encouraged to decorate their own pair of Vans for a chance to win big bucks ($50,000, to be exact) to be donated to their local art program.
With just a needle, thread, and whole lot of sequins, Kate and Laura are proving that a creative career is possible for everyone — and displaying some serious hometown pride in the process!
