Call It A Tie: Carven's New Collection Does Fall '13 In A Cinch

Maybe it's about time we extended a proper round of applause to Guillaume Henry, Carven's creative director who just gets the female form. In his newest collection for fall '13, the designs went a bit wild with tiger-striped, sheer-patterned dresses, deer prints, and fuzzy fabric abound, but the one reoccurring theme we favorited? The cinched, sash-tied waists on his outwear designs. Welcoming refreshingly unseasonal pastels into fall, the designer turned up the volume of coat silhouettes (which, yes, can be a tricky shape) topped off with wide sashes — a universally handy shortcut to an instant hourglass shape.
Other pieces also played up the female form, such as perfectly seamed dresses, thigh-high slits, and demure skirt-and-jacket combos — as we often find (and love) in Henry's collections. Yet, even in a presentation that didn't include a single pair of pants, the ladylike looks never harbored on too girlish. The pieces were undeniably grown-up and not afraid to take a few fashion risks — a quality that always wins points in our book.
