Band Of Outsiders Does The Southwest Thing In An Entirely New Way

Southwest-inspired designs are a dime a dozen these days, with Ganado patterns occurring more often in the fall '12 collections than not. However, Boy. by Band of Outsiders managed to make the Southwest theme feel new again, tying in references to Walter De Maria's "The Lightning Field," English actress Charlotte Rampling, and the Le Smoking with a decidedly desert-weather vibe.
While there is a single geometric woven print showing up on a skirt, it never feels like something you'd find in the bargain bin at Urban Outfitters. In fact, many of the pieces have that familiar-but-fresh quality; blanket stripes, safari-style dresses, varsity jackets, and jumpsuits are nothing novel, but under Scott Sternberg's direction, they feel unexpectedly new. And that's why we find ourselves returning again and again to Sternberg — the man makes us fall in love all over again with our favorite pieces. Click through for the full pre-fall '13 lookbook.
