Prints Charming! First Rite's Stellar Spring '13 Lookbook

While basics will always be a mainstay in our wardrobes, we can’t help but lust after attention-grabbing patterns to play things up. And when done right, we especially swoon over a good ol' prints-on-prints-on-prints ensemble to dial up the wow factor. And showing us how to work the trend accordingly is First Rite’s latest spring ’13 lookbook!
Full of graphic items practically made to be mixed and matched to our heart’s content, Mission-based designer (and R29 fave) Nikki Garcia didn’t rely on any fabric outlet to provide the intricate dots, swirls, and stripes. Rather, she grabbed hold of a brush and hand-painted some of the motifs on the silky pieces herself. “I wanted to play around with the idea of mix and match suiting that felt more playful than serious. I chose to combine contrast patterns and textures like indigo-dyed prints and heavier silks that can be switched around to create lots of different looks,” says Garcia.
The results of the designer’s standout handiwork include polka-dotted jumpsuits, watercolor striped maxi dresses, and whimsical women’s suits that have us looking to book playdates just to don the fanciful duds. And continuing with her can-do attitude, Garcia decided to build the lookbooks’ rustic-cool backdrop instead of relying on a typical white-walled studio. Of course, we’re a little more than just impressed with the outcome. See what we mean by sliding through after the jump and see how getting your hands dirty can look oh-so-pretty in the end.
