5 Things To Do This Week In L.A.

The temps are finally starting to drop (we even broke out multiple layers last night!), but there's zero sign of our social calendars slowing down. This week, we're exercising our brains with a lecture that's sure to earn high marks, and a front-row seat for a screening of an Oscar-nominated doc. Of course, our iCals aren't completely decked out in educational events — you'll also find us nabbing free makeovers and shaking our tushes for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We'll meet you on the dance floor!
Shake Your Booty For BCA
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and every year L.A. plays host to a slew of charitable events to benefit care and research. Your ticket purchase for the Beats 4 Boobs affair will go towards a good cause, and you'll have the chance to win a bevy of awesome prizes from Equinox, Yoga Works, Benefit, and more! Oh, and let's not forget about the tunes — DJs Marques Wyatt and Mr. C will be spinning the best sounds all night long.
When: Wednesday, October 10, 7 p.m.
Where: Avalon, 1735 Vine Street (near Hollywood Boulevard); no phone.
Get Pretty With Makeup Artist Napoleon Perdis
He's worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, and now Perdis is bringing his talents to the masses with a Target collab that'll knock your makeup bag's socks off! If you're in the downtown area, swing by Nokia Plaza L.A. Live tomorrow afternoon for a free makeover and tons of goodies. This pop-up is the perfect way to battle any midweek woes (seriously, there's nothing a little lipstick can't fix!).
When: Wednesday, October 10, noon to 8 p.m.
Where: Nokia Plaza L.A. Live, 800 West Olympic Boulevard (at South Figueroa Street); 866-548-3452.
The Godmother of Punk Promotes Her Latest
Be one of the lucky few to witness Patti Smith perform her new album, "Banga," live this Friday night. Just Kids was one of our fave beach reads this summer, so there's no way we're missing the legendary artist while she's in town!
When: Friday, October 12, 8 p.m.
Where: The Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Boulevard (at South Western Avenue); 213-388-1400.
Catch Banksy's Blockbuster At The Beach
How often do you get to watch an Oscar-nominated flick from the breeze of the beach? Very rarely, which is why we won't blame you for canceling your Friday evening plans in lieu of Front Porch Cinema's screening of Exit Through the Gift Shop at the Santa Monica Pier. And, don't worry if you forgot your Orville Redenbacher snacks, there will be plenty of popcorn and food trucks waiting to satisfy any junk food cravings.
When: Friday, October 12, 6 p.m.
Where: The Santa Monica Pier, 1600 Ocean Avenue (at Colorado Avenue); 310-458-8900.
A Convo Between Two Literary Greats We Can't Miss!
Sure, fall always brings back-to-school memories, but we didn't think we'd actually spend September listening in on conversations conducted in classrooms! Well, we're busting out the No. 2's and taking notes on Monday when Frank Rich and Fran Lebowitz visit USC to talk about everything from the economy to gay marriage. Nothing's off limits!
When: Monday, October 15, 7 p.m.
Where: USC Bovard Auditorium, 3551 Trousdale Parkway (near West Exposition Boulevard); 213-740-4211.
