Balenciaga Returns From The Future, Does Classic In Its Own Special Way

Coming off the heels of fall's futuristic theme, Nicolas Ghesquière presented his spring '13 collection at Paris Fashion Week which has us wondering if he's been listenin' to the classics. The latest Balenciaga designs were nothing short of stunning — cascading waves of ruffles, opulent lace, and ornate trimmings, to name a few. However, the designer also included timeless shapes, such as structured pantsuits and sweetheart evening gowns, executed in new and brilliant ways.
Kicking off the show with red-carpet-worthy, over-the-top (in a good way) ruffles, the presentation then shifted into menswear-inspired tailoring, girlish skirt combinations, and finally, closing with Ghesquière's unique take on lace frocks —think more sexy, laser-cut, rather then grandma's kitchen doily.
Models with effortlessly pinned-back manes and barely-there makeup reminded us that, while classics can stand the test of time, this collection was 100% intended for the modern Balenciaga woman — confident, cool, and, of course, unwaveringly chic.
