5 Things To Do This Week: Nom-Tastic Baking Classes & More!

Let’s be real: Sometimes, we just need to let loose and unwind a bit. And sure, dinner and a movie can get our minds off the usual workweek grind, but our roundup of local shindigs is anything but predictable. From an ice-cream sandwich tutorial to indulging at an outdoor concert, we guarantee this week will be far from dullsville. Peep the rad happenings below and get ready to have an uploading spree on Instagram.
Andrea Linett Book Signing
If there’s anything better than snagging a new fashion tome for our collection, its scoring one signed by its sartorially savvy author. And at Mira Mira’s Thursday-night shindig, Michael Kors' global creative director Andrea Linett will be there with a pen at the ready to sign copies of her book, I Want To Be Her. Stop by the 22nd Street style haven to snag a copy, meet an industry power player, and treat yourself with sweet bites from Black Jet Bakery.
When: Thursday, September 27, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Mira Mira, 3292 22nd Street (at Valencia Street); 415-648-6513.
Scharffen Berger Baking Classes
Instead of peeling the paper off a store-bought ice-cream sandwich, die-hard dessert lovers can learn to whip up gourmet treats from the experts — for free! Top Scharffen Berger pastry chefs Alice Medrich and Yigit Pura are teaming up to host two back-to-back, delectable sweet-treat courses. First, create a batch of pasilla-spiced cookie sandwiches, followed by a lesson in creating a mocha-banana ice-cream to stuff between the cookies. Um, why can’t all classes be this tasty? Space is limited to one session per person, so choose wisely and register here: scharffenbergerrsvp@rfbinder.com.
When: Saturday, September 29, 2 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m.
Where: Macy’s Cellar Demo Kitchen, 170 O’Farrell Street (between Powell and Stockton streets); 855-601-1902.
Juniper Ridge’s Field Lab Distilling Session
We already rely on Juniper Ridge to supply us with fresh scents using natural plant ingredients, but now we get to see what goes into making the intoxicating sniffs. This Saturday, see Juniper Ridge in action at its live distilling session to learn the tricks of the oil-making trade. There, aromatic foliage like pine, redwood, and sage will be used to create irresistible oil fragrances before our eyes. Ready to get scentsual? Get the deets below and smell out the event for yourself.
When: Saturday, September 29, 1 to 5 p.m.
Where: Foggy Notion, 275 6th Avenue, Suite 101 (at Clement Street); 415-683-5654.
The Bonfire Sessions
With our Indian Summer here, there’s no better way to celebrate sunny temps than with an outdoor concert. Rising to the occasion is The San Francisco Bonfire Session, where acts like The Dodos, Geographer, and White Fence will be serenading the crowd on Treasure Island. And if the location sounds like a world away, note that there will be free shuttles to transport city folks to hear the live jams. All you gotta do is RSVP here!
When: Sunday, September 30, 5:30 p.m.
Where: Fogwatch Picnic Area, Treasure Island.
