Coming To America: Hermès Kicks Off The Festival Des Métiers

At face value Hermès scarves are complete eye candy. Gorgeous, intricate designs, colors so vibrant they practically jump out at you, and the silk — it's practically divine. But, all this luxe loveliness did not just arrive by luck. It was envisioned, crafted, and carefully detailed to practical perfection by Hermès artisans — and, now, we're about to get a much closer look into that process.
Kicking off a three-city celebration, the luxury brand just launched their Festival des Métiers stateside, inviting us all to explore the creative minds and very capable hands behind those iconic silk squares. The little-over-a-month long event will premiere in New York today through September 9 (yes, neatly timed to the start of Fashion Week), then later head to San Francisco from the 20 through 24, and finally wrap in Houston from October 10 through 14.
And, not to be overshadowed by the silks, the artisans on tour will also be on hand to demonstrate how other Hermès accessories are crafted, particularly the Kelly bag and Collier de Chien bracelets (le sigh). We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the festival yesterday, and we have to say the whole event is trés chic. (Uh, did you know it takes two years to make one of those silk scarves?!) To get you in the luxurious mood, we're bringing you some exclusive pictures from yesterday's preview — click through to check out the oh-so-sophisticated guests, and a bit of that classic orange.
Also, be sure to catch the closest U.S. stop of the Festival des Métiers:
September 5 through 9 — 583 Park Avenue (between 63 and 64 streets); New York.
September 20 through 24 — Union Square Park (between Post, Stockton, Geary and Powell streets); San Francisco.
October 10 through 14 — 1800 Post Oak Boulevard (by Hallmark Drive, adjacent to the Hermès Boutique); Houston.
