If there's anything we've learned from this summer's celebrity hair changes so far, it's that a lot of stars are having conflicting ideas about what the ideal seasonal hairstyle should really be. Every few weeks, Hilary Duff seems to be trimming off a few more inches of her hair and tweaking her bangs along with it; Charlize Theron also seems to be going shorter by the day.
But as far as being indecisive with color goes, Emma Roberts is topping our list. In February, she went from blonde to brunette; then, in April, she went from that deep brunette back to a shade of blonde that made her the spitting image of her aunt Julia Roberts.

While that could have been her summer vibe, Roberts is clearly never one to have one color too long. On Monday, she stepped out of Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood, California, with fresh dark-chocolate hair once again.
According to Nine Zero One's lead colorist Nikki Lee, the new darker hair, which is closer to Roberts' natural brown shade, is for her upcoming role on American Horror Story: 1984.
"This new look is for American Horror Story," Lee says. "So the challenge was: How do I create a look for Emma that she will be shooting with for the next fews months, but that’s also modern for her day-to-day life?"
The new look actually started with a cut, according to Lee, with Nine Zero One stylist Riawna Capri trimming off a few inches. "Riawna created a mid-length blunt cut that could be styled very '80s for the show," Lee says. "For her real life, we did a modern kind of wave, so she’s not walking around looking like she’s in 1984."
Fittingly, Lee is calling this particular shade of brunette “1984 brunette,” which she says is just a rich, warm brown. "It’s pretty classic and very Emma," Lee says. "It suits her both for the show and for day-to-day."
Indeed, for a woman who has tried on seemingly every major hair-color trend under the sun (including a gorgeous copper), this is proof that it's pretty damn hard to get a color better than your natural hue.
