Even if you don't know her name, you've undoubtedly seen her work, according to an in-depth feature on the "genius" makeup artist published today in Women's Wear Daily. According to Vogue beauty director Sarah Brown, “When a beauty trend is happening on the runway, 90% of the time Pat is behind it...what she does absolutely effects global beauty trends."
And in an industry that's growing exponentially, that's no small feat. A lifelong makeup lover with a relentless attention to detail, McGrath is famous for leaving no stone unturned when developing a look. When describing her work ethic, hairstylist Guido Palau says, “She has a huge library, and she instinctively has a great reference of history, film, pictures, theater, characters on the street, club land, every kind of youth cult is in her mind...She details everything.”

Beauty conglomerate Proctor & Gamble took note of McGrath's work when it named her global cosmetics creative design director, according to Esi Eggleston Bracey, vice president of global cosmetics at P&G, who describes McGrath as a woman who "wants to win." At the same time, McGrath isn't afraid to make mistakes, according to Palau. “She is not scared of doing things, of pushing herself, of wiping it off and starting again. She is passionate about her work, but not precious about it.”
The most exciting McGrath-related news, in our opinion? That the makeup artist might be starting her own line, and sooner, rather than later. We just hope the beauty industry is ready for this firecracker's next move...(WWD)
