This Is What '60s Swiss Rebel Youths Look Like

We'll be honest here, as fashion people, we obviously love art, but sometimes it can go a little above our heads. Swiss photographer Karlheinz Weinberger, however, totally speaks our language with his gorgeously gritty snaps of disaffected Swiss youth. Lucky for us, Weinberger is all over the place as of late, with a brand new book, Rebel Youth , and retrospectives at two galleries in Chelsea and SoHo. With an intro by the fabulously bizarre John Waters, Rebel Youth is a collection of images documenting the lives and style of a group of Swiss teenagers (called Verlausten, or lice-infected-ones) that Weinberg became fascinated with in the late '50s and '60s. It's the kind of book we'd look to for style inspiration again and again—there's an Americana vibe but with distinctly Swiss touches, like seriously oversized belts imprinted with Elvis' mug, or denim jackets decked out with studs, heavy metal chains, and fur that makes for a punk-cowboy look that's like nothing else we've ever seen. The book's being released on February 8 by Rizzoli, so mark your calendars because, trust us, this is one book you'll actually want to read. Trip to Geneva, anybody?
