With the global pandemic putting far-flung holidays on ice this year, we found our summer fun a little closer to home instead. From bucolic fields to quaint seaside towns, the UK has plenty to offer in the way of R&R – who needs moules frites in Marseille when we have fish and chips in Margate? Now that we’re past the last days of summer, we’re stowing away our mini dresses and sandals and donning our hiking boots for an autumn staycation. And who better to kit us out than Barbour by ALEXACHUNG? The heritage lifestyle brand continues its cult collaboration with Chung’s eponymous label to bring us another collection made for a season of stomping across muddy fields and settling down in cosy pubs.

For AW20, the collection is made up of 11 pieces inspired by the Barbour archives, dating back to 1910. Featuring a more muted colour palette than previous collections, fans of the collaboration will be pleased to discover a rusty orange iteration of the Glenda Casual trench coat – a sellout hit of previous drops – while those looking for cosseted comfort will find it in two quilted styles: a short, belted green jacket and a longline navy coat. The Violet Wax is a contemporary spin on Barbour’s Bedale Wax, an equestrian jacket designed in 1980, with a corduroy collar and detachable hood. If you’re looking for a more utilitarian vibe, though, two new baseball-style caps also feature this season, alongside a hooded lace-up rain coat, perfect for throwing on over cycling shorts on wet autumnal evening walks.
“This is arguably my favourite collection to date as we approached the design process with more ambition, delving even deeper into the Barbour archive to explore new silhouettes and make them our own,” Chung said of the launch. “This particular collection evokes an element of nostalgia fuelled by childhood memories of seeing my elders wearing similar shapes in Hampshire. Silhouettes are more adventurous whilst the palette is pared down. Navy features quite heavily which might not come as much of a surprise to anyone who has been following my personal wardrobe, whilst earthy tones like the chestnut brown and brick red rust feel pleasingly synonymous with both brands. It's an autumnal English postcard of outerwear.”

Festival season may have been paused for 2020 but this collection, a love letter to British craftsmanship and a celebration of the great outdoors, will look as good on our rainy winter camping trips as it will at Glastonbury next June.
