This DIY Enthusiast Found The Perfect Career

For those who need a little help on the home improvement front, Home Depot is the go-to spot. Characterized by its friendly employees in the orange aprons, the shops are there for all of your repair and construction needs. And, if you feel like taking on some fun DIY projects? That’s where Home Depot’s blog, The Apron, comes into play. Providing readers with unique projects and tips for outdoor living, The Apron is like the exciting little sister to Home Depot’s brick-and-mortar stores.
Making sure The Apron stays enjoyable to its readers requires a lot of hard work, especially for Whitney Curtis, the senior editor for the blog. She spends most of her days in the office, writing and editing for the blog, but she also gets to enjoy “DIY Days”, where she’s out shooting and working on new projects. And she does all of this on top of running her own blog, The Curtis Casa! If the blogosphere interests you as much as it does Whitney, read on to see what a day in the life entails.
6 a.m.: First, I've gotta get my coffee fix. I always start the day with a kiss for my husband and little snuggle for our dog.
7 a.m.: I say good morning to my blog, The Curtis Casa, with coffee in hand. I check in on the day's post and make sure all of my social media is ready. I hit the road for the office and spend the day at Home Depot HQ.
9 a.m.: I email and check in with our Home Depot bloggers and guest contributors. It's my favorite part of the day! Our relationships with bloggers is my number one priority. We have an awesome network of influencer bloggers that we love to collaborate with on The Home Depot blog, The Apron. (Hello, dream job!)
12 p.m.: I spend some time editing photos and writing copy for the blog. I check in on our popular Style Challenge series, which is where we invite bloggers to style our products in their homes. We run two flagship series, Holiday & Patio, and other series throughout the year. It's an absolute blast to see the creative ideas our bloggers come up with!
2 p.m.: It's time to curate a few pins for our Pinterest boards. I love catching up on my favorite DIY and home decor blogs and finding fresh content for our Pinterest boards.
3 p.m.: The team gets together for a planning session for an upcoming campaign. Brainstorms abound!
6 p.m.: Time to head home. I try to cook dinner for my husband and me, but lately we've been doing a lot of take out! Luckily, there's a great pizza place nearby. If it's nice out, we'll take our dog for a walk around the block. My husband and I also started a new thing this summer, we declared Tuesday nights "Unplugged" nights. We turn off our cell phones and enjoy a slow evening together. No phones, no TV — it's great!
8 p.m.: I head out to my studio to spend an hour or so working on content development for my blog — photo editing, emailing, copywriting, and general web surfing. I find so much inspiration online and I feel so lucky that I get to do something I love, something that started out as a hobby, as my job.
