In a recent two-for-one Financial Times interview with friend, designer, and “official walker” Peter Dundas, the eye-catching editor-at-large of Vogue Japan, Anna Dello Russo, spoke of a childhood filled with fashion, fast fingers, and Machiavellian scheming. She says, “As a teenager, I loathed jeans and hoodies so I would ransack my mother’s closet, and the closets of my mother’s friends. On Sunday morning, they would open their closets to find they were missing a blouse or had a mismatched suit, and they would groan, ‘Oh, that’s Anna’.” Yeah, been there.
But being the style mastermind she is, ADR took these youthful closet raids to another level, pushing her poor mom into buying designer clothes specifically for the purpose of purloining them later. “They were too tight for her and too big for me, so I nipped them with belts or pinned them.” Clever girl. Wish we'd thought of that.
