The Small But Mighty Cast Of Where'd You Go, Bernadette

The summer of 2019 is coming to an end, and as the weather changes, so do the movies hitting theaters. Superhero and adventure flicks dominated the box office this summer, but as Fall approaches, August ushers in a wave of dramas and mysteries that seem to last until November. Well, kicking off the tonal switch this year is the new Cate Blanchett movie Where’d You Go Bernadette which is based on the comedic novel of the same name by Maria Semple, centered on an intriguing mystery.

Heading this story in the role of Bernadette is Academy Award winning actress and the ultimate leading lady, Blanchett. The movie, directed and co-written by Boyhood’s Richard Linklater, follows on an architect who decides to rediscover herself and her passions after spending years only focusing on her family. It is up to her daughter Bee (Emma Nelson) to find her mother when Bernadette goes on an epic adventure. There are also quite a few eccentric characters that Bernadette leaves behind and meets during her excursion.

Take a look at the list of stellar actors rounding out the cast that will be looking for Bernadette when the film hits theaters August 16.

Cate Blanchett Plays Bernadette

Blanchett plays the titular role of Bernadette. She’s sporting a short bob and oversized black sunglasses, but don’t be fooled because Bernadette is nothing like Anna Wintour. She’s not afraid of acting ridiculous or rubbing people the wrong way, as evident by the crazy shenanigans she pulls in the Where'd You Go, Bernadette trailer. Blanchett (who seems to be constantly working!) dabbled in some voice acting earlier this year for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, so Where’d You Go Bernadette will be the first time moviegoers are actually seeing her on the big screen in 2019.

Judy Greer Plays Dr. Kurtz

Beloved character actress Judy Greer stars alongside Blanchett as Dr. Kurtz. Greer has been bouncing back and forth between television and movie parts recently. Her latest film, a dramedy called Buffaloed, was released earlier this year. This November, she will also resume playing her character Jill on HBO’s Kidding when the series returns to the premium network. And this summer, she voiced Cheryl in the tenth season of FX's cartoon sitcom, Archer.

Kristen Wiig Plays Audrey

Wiig reunited with former co-star Blanchett for her role as Audrey. The two previously worked together (sort of), as they both voiced characters in How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. But, from the looks of things, Audrey and Bernadette are neighbors at war in this film. Aside from the third and final How To Train Your Dragon movie, Wiig has been missing from the movie scene for a bit, but she's back in Where’d You Go, Bernadette, the upcoming Wonder Woman: 1984, and she and her Bridesmaids co-writer Annie Mumolo are back in 2020 with Barb And Star Go To Vista Del Mar.

Troian Bellisario Plays Becky

We have missed this Pretty Little Liars alum showing off her acting chops! Bellisario will be playing a character named Becky in Where’d You Go Bernadette. Becky is a researcher in Antarctica, who Bernadette encounters on her travels. In real life, Bellisario's latest movie, Clara, was a sci-fi flick in which she co-starred with her actor husband Patrick J. Adams. Her next film appears to be an action thriller co-starring Brett Gelman, a.k.a. Murray Bauman from Stranger Things.

Billy Crudup Plays Elgin

Prepared to be seeing a lot more from Crudup in the remaining months of 2019. In this film, he plays Elgin, Bernadette’s husband who is understandably alarmed when he realizes his wife has fled their home. In addition to starring in this film, the Almost Famous actor also appears in the drama After the Wedding which is currently in theaters. Crudup, like many of the actors on this list, will then venture into television acting: He's in the cast of the new Apple TV+ series The Morning Show premiering this fall.

Laurence Fishburne Plays Paul

Who wouldn’t want Laurence Fishburne to show up in their life and give them a necessary pep talk? His character, Paul, is the one who encourages Bernadette to skip town and go on an adventure after he gives her some tough love. Fishburne is constantly entertaining audiences with his work. His latest film was the recently released John Wick: Chapter 3 —Parabellum. And, of course, we can always count on his hilarious commentary every week as Pops on black-ish.

Emma Nelson Plays Bee

Bee is Bernadette's daughter, and the one on the case when her mother goes on her emotional walkabout. If you don't recognize Nelson, that's because she's brand new to the acting world. And what a way to start out: starring alongside the one and only Cate Blanchett!
