The Best Drugstore Foundations For Oily Skin Types

There are a lot of upsides to having oily skin. For example, you always have a built-in glow, rarely suffer from annoying dry patches, and some even believe that producing more oil might help prevent wrinkles. Still, while having active sebaceous glands might have its moments, oily skin can make wearing foundation a struggle — namely because oily skin tends to make whatever you put on top of it slide right off.

This phenomenon often manifests itself in frustrating ways, like answering the phone only to find half your face smeared all over the screen afterwards or looking in the mirror at noon to see the zit you artfully concealed a few hours ago in full view. It's moments like these that turn makeup from a form of expression to an anxiety-inducing pain in the ass. Luckily, a good mattifying foundation can really help.

Ahead, we've rounded up our favorite oil-controlling and long-wearing formulas. Oh, and did we mention they're cheap, too? It's a win-win, ahead.

We like to think of this foundation as the drugstore's best "hug-proof" formula. Translation: It won't come off on collars, turtlenecks, or your S.O.'s T-shirts. The lightweight formula controls oil so well, we often skip powder all together.
Revlon Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin , $7.49 Buy
Those with combination skin (for example, an oily T-zone, but dry patches on the cheeks) will love this creamy formula. Unlike most of the foundations in this lineup, this one has a "demi-matte" finish, meaning it won't stamp out every last bit of grease on your face, but it will manage to keep your skin looking fresh and generally oil-free for hours.
L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation, $12.99 Buy
Fun fact: We tested this $6 foundation against a $44 one and it held its own. Despite its full-coverage finish (which, by the way, can cover everything from acne scars, to redness, to pimples), the foundation manages to look skin-like when tapped on with a damp sponge. Plus, it's long-wearing, matte (but not flat!) finish, means it clings to our oily T-zones all day.
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation, $5.99 Buy
When it comes to matte foundations, this one has a sheer, more natural finish than most thanks to its medium coverage. Don't let that scare you off though, one layer will mattify your skin and even out discoloration, but two or three will bring you into full coverage territory.
Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation, $7.99 Buy
This long lasting, foundation-meets-concealer hybrid can cover just about anything without looking cakey or heavy on the skin. We like tapping it on over our comlexion with a damp sponge, then going in with a smaller brush to conceal problem areas that need more coverage.
Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer, $9.99 Buy
Not only do these drops have a matte finish, but they can also be mixed into face lotion or tinted moisturizer for custom, sheer coverage.

NYX Cosmetics Total Control Drop Foundation, $13.99, available at Ulta.
