"Never Have I Ever": How To Dress For The Gym

Even though we like to think we’ve been there and done that, there are certain life events that even our most experienced editors have yet to encounter. In this, our ultimate style guide was born. We’ve enlisted the help of a few R29ers to bring you useful shopping tips that’ll prep your closet for every major milestone, so you’re never left saying, “What do I wear?”
"I know it sounds slightly incredible, but I've truly never worked out at a gym. As in never ever. I think I played squash in a gym. Once. Give me yoga, put me in a dance class — I can downward dog and plié like mad. However, for some unknown reason, I have a deep and irrational ambivalence-mixed-with-fear of all things elliptical, treadmills, and [insert name of any other weird machines I don't know]. It's very silly, I know.
"And, NYC certainly hasn't helped, because people really 'dress' for the gym like it's another event. The clothes aren't such a big deal to me, but if and when I do muster the courage, I know I'll be perplexed. Change or not to change? Do I need a towel? So many accessory questions. But, I hear people watch TV while they exercise. I definitely could be into that."
