How To Never Hate Your Haircut Again

Ever walk into a salon to get the hair of your dreams only to walk out with the bowl cut of your nightmares? Yep, been there, done that, and never wanna do it again. No matter how well we explain what we're looking for and how many times we say "low maintenance," there's always a disconnect between us and the hairstylist.
That's why we called in the founder and CEO of Hair Room Service, Michael Dueñas, to get real about asking and, more importantly, getting the cut you want. From showing the stylist your dream look on the Samsung Galaxy Note® 3 + Gear™ — a wrist-ready wearable device (the better to snap inspo pics with) that works seamlessly with its smartphone counterpart — to communicating your must-haves without a hitch, these pro tips will have everyone begging you for advice. Dueñas may look like your average hairdresser, but he and his company aren't exactly run-of-the-mill.

"While I was checking in at a hotel years ago, a woman went to the front desk and asked where she could get her hair done. The concierge didn’t have any solid recommendations, and I could tell the women was daunted by that. So, I offered my services. Of course, she said no, but hey, some random guy saying, 'Hey, I'll do your hair'? I would say no, too. But, that's when the spark came — beauty services delivered to you. That was new and uncharted waters."

"Bring multiple pictures of the look you like. That way, you can ask the stylist if your hair can do what you want in the first place. And, be very specific when describing it to make sure he or she is on the same page as you — the exact same page."

"The Galaxy Gear™ makes it easy to show your hairstylist the exact photo of the hair you want. See the style in a magazine? Select the camera feature on the Galaxy Gear™ and just say 'capture.' It'll autofocus and take the photo faster than you can pull out your phone or camera. See a mag by the counter while buying groceries with no time to buy it? Bring up the camera and capture! Showing your stylist what you want has never been easier."

"Find out exactly what you need to take care of and maintain the hair you want. Always ask what tools you need or what was used to achieve the style you are looking for, so you can use the products, especially if they're high-quality ones your stylist recommends, and reproduce the look at home."

To get healthy locks like these, Dueñas suggests, "Use a deep conditioner once or twice a week for the recommended time period."

"Always, always, always ask how long it will take to achieve the look you want (especially in the mornings!), how many haircuts you should get to maintain it, how much your hair needs to grow, and so on and so forth. And, don't forget to make your next appointment!"

"It's easy to forget your next hair appointment. But, making a note on the Galaxy Gear™ calendar will keep you on track. Ask the stylist how often you should cut your hair, and then just set a reminder. The info syncs with the Note® 3, so you'll always have a reminder on your phone or wrist that you're due back to the salon in a few weeks."
