6 Events To Kick Off Indian Summer

Well, folks, it's time to welcome our Indian summer with open arms. Yes, we have missed it dearly. And, to celebrate this precious heat wave, a party — or six — seems in order! This week, we can show our support for the America's Cup, while bopping between a shopping pop-up and an off-the-wall art collaboration. Get the details below, and don't be left stranded when the sun starts shining.
Dockers Sounds Of San Francisco
It's possible that you are a little broke after a long summer of music-festival hopping, but have no fear, the rhythmic fun doesn't end just yet! Dockers is partnering with the America's Cup to bring you some awesome locally-grown talent that won't cost you a dime to see. This week, Nexus Rock will take the stage to help you boogie from Sunday right into Monday. If you have yet to hear the band, they are full of energetic beats that will have you shaking it in no time! Along with these awesome concerts, one lucky individual can win a $200 Dockers gift card, on top of even more swag (like meeting your band of choice from the lineup)! Well, we know what we are doing with our weekend!
When: Sunday, September 8, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Where: America's Cup Pavilion, Pier 27/29 (at Embarcadero); 415-412-4642.
Score Pop-Up At The California Academy Of Sciences
You probably don't often head out for a Thursday night with a bag of clothes that you no longer wear, but this time it's for a good cause! Gather your wares and get ready for a super-satisfying swap going down at the California Academy of Sciences' Nightlife. Aside from getting to rifle through cool San Franciscans' closets, you can stop by for some nail art, a style consultation, and, of course, a drink or two. Peek a fashion show from Bay-based designers and maybe even stop by to see the marine life. Bonus: All leftover items are to be donated to both Dress For Success and Goodwill.
When: Thursday, September 5, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: California Academy Of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Drive (between Hagiwara Tea Garden and Nancy Pelosi drives); 415-379-8000.
Lazy Twins Pop-Up At Storenvy
It takes a lot of will power not to blow your paycheck the minute you see the merch over at the Lazy Twins e-store, so how do you think you'll feel seeing it in person? Well, prepare yourself because its latest set of hot items will be calling the Storenvy brick-and-mortar home for the entire month of September. With all the quirky and fashionable looks, you will be hard-pressed to leave empty handed.
When: Wednesday, September 4 to Monday, September 30, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., each weekday.
Where: Storenvy at Crocker Galleria, 50 Post Street (between Kearny and Montgomery streets); No phone.
Hot Dog, Hot Dog Open Reception
Although the title may be misleading, this is not a hot dog eating competition. It is, however a wonderful collaboration dedicated to classically amusing characters and good old pop culture. Artists Justin Hager and Kristine Reano worked together (literally, painting at the same time) to create the works of art that you will be smirking about for days! The nice people over at Four Barrel Coffee will be hosting the artists, so join them and all their illustrated personalities for an evening of good times.
When: Thursday, September 5, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Four Barrel Coffee, 375 Valencia Street (between 14th and 15th streets); 415-896-4289.
Luckyrice Festival
With more than a dozen of your favorite Asian grub spots gathering together (sexy spot Hakkasan among them), one could argue this might be one of the best foodie events of the year. Each restaurant will be producing a tasting menu that will have you dreaming of caramelized rice cakes and vegetarian dumplings for weeks, plus, they'll also be putting their top chefs and cocktail masters forward. Talk about getting lucky! More favorites like Slanted Door, E&O Asian Kitchen, and Roka Akor will be in attendance, feeding the masses!
When: Friday, September 6, 7 to 10 p.m.
Where: Ferry Building, 1 Sausalito (at Embarcadero); 415-983-8030.
Price: $88 to $125; Tickets; Here.
Film Night In The Park, Moonrise Kingdom
If any movie seems fit for an evening park viewing, Moonrise Kingdom is it. You may have been guilty of over-watching this flick when it first came out (we know we are!), but it never hurts to indulge in a favorite. You can thank Wes Anderson for the perfect and free date night later (donations are appreciated), but while you're there, soak up the adorable adventures of a youthful budding romance. It may be one of the last dusks of "summer," so getting the full experience is kind of necessary. Pack a picnic and throw down some blankets for this one, it's time to get cozy!
When: Saturday, September 7, 8 to 10:30 p.m.
Where: Washington Square Park, 600 Columbus Avenue (between Filbert and Union streets); No phone.
