Passion Pit, Matt & Kim, & More Awesome Shows This Week

Psychic Ills, White Hills: Bowery Ballroom, February 7, $15
Like the name would imply, Psychic Ills specialize in heavy-as-molasses psych-rock, yet buried in the squalls of bluesy guitar are big hooks and catchy undercurrents. RIYL: mind expansion, incense, and the color black.
Thursday, February 7, 8 p.m., Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey Street (between Bowery and Chrystie Street); 212-533-2111.
Passion Pit, Matt & Kim, Icona Pop: Madison Square Garden, February 8, $42.50
It still seems crazy to us that Passion Pit is big enough to headline Madison Square Garden, but this week will mark the second time the synth-poppers takes the stage at the storied stadium. Supporting are the always-solid Brooklyners Matt & Kim along with Girls-approved Swedish duo Icona Pop.
Friday, February 8, 7 p.m., Madison Square Garden, 2 Penn Plaza (between 7th and 8th avenues); 212-465-6741.
The Wedding Present: Bowery Ballroom, February 9, $15
Over a long and storied career British indie rock band, The Wedding Present, has evolved from jagged post-punk to racking up 18 top 40 singles in the UK. Saturday will see the David Gedge-lead group performing their classic album George Best in its entirety, along with plenty of other tunes.
