Slip Into A Food Coma, Celebrate YSL, & More At This Week's Hottest Events

Before the obligatory holiday festivities start occupying you like whoa, we suggest you take part in this week’s spectacular happenings that don’t include crooning Christmas carols. From an opening full of ooey-gooey confections to a party inspired by the one and only Yves Saint Laurent, these events will make you feel like Christmas came early. Scope out the list below, and trust us, you won’t need to check it twice to find all the fun.
Dandelion Chocolate Factory Opening
Melt-in-your-mouth chocolate officially lands in the Mission this Wednesday with the opening of the new locale Dandelion Chocolate Factory. Be there opening day to watch the confection crafters whip up the beans into decadent bars, like its High Seas that is sprinkled with sea salt. Salivating yet? Us, too — big time!
When: Wednesday, November 14, noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Dandelion Chocolate Factory, 740 Valencia Street (between 18th and 19th streets); 415-349-0942.
Sasha Maks Vintage Jewelry Trunk Show
If the sight of Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dior’s sparkling jewels is enough to turn your eyes into saucers, then we suggest you attend this upcoming trinket fête. Sasha Maks Vintage will be unveiling its selection of designer jewels of yesteryear this Wednesday. (Just in time for us to twinkle during the holidays, hooray!) After you’ve managed to pull yourself away from the bips and bops, you can sit down for a makeup tutorial by the Beauty Company, while swilling some champagne, of course.
When: Wednesday, November 14, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Mike Page Style Lab, 664 Post Street (between Jones and Taylor streets); 415-441-7522.
Voyage To Marrakech
It’s practically ingrained in our culture to idolize lavish lifestyles. And, you know what they say: If you can’t beat 'em, join 'em! In that case, we can’t think of a better way to do so than to replicate Yves Saint Laurent’s indulgent, ’70s way of life. Lucky for us, The Factory is making his inspiring, groovy style into a wearable spring ’13 collection, with a Moroccan-themed shindig to match. Partake in the exotic libations, fare, and tunes this Thursday for a soiree that's bound to put the "amor" in "glamorous."
When: Thursday, November 15, 6 to 10 p.m.
Where: The Factory, 370 4th Street, Suite 1 (at Clara Street); 877-531-5225.
Urban Zen Trunk Show
We can’t help but love when the lines of giving and receiving become blurry. Such is the case at Carrots' latest trunk show, where we get to shop Donna Karan’s charity brand Urban Zen that helps preserve exotic cultures. The latest all-black collection will turn your heart into anything but.
When: Thursday, November 17, 6 to 10 p.m.
Where: Carrots, 843 Montgomery Street (between Pacific Avenue and Jackston Street); 415-834-9040.
Dema Anniversary Party
Ask us what we were doing 15 years ago, and there’s no way it could possibly compare to what Dema was doing — opening up its shop! To celebrate its huge milestone as a Valencia Street staple, the Mission fashion outfitter is throwing a bash to remember. In addition to serving up 20% off discounts on duds, Dema will also be dishing out Mission Mini's cupcakes, flutes of bubbly, and live tunes from local acts. Um, we’re so ready to help Dema blow out the candles.
When: Saturday, November 17, 6 to 10 p.m.
Where: Dema, 1038 Valencia Street (at 21st Street); 415-206-0500.
Off The Grid: Justin Herman Plaza
Look, we’re always ready to chow down on some food-truck grub — but lugging it all the way across town is too much for our growling tummies to handle. Which is why we’re super psyched that Off The Grid has officially unloaded in Justin Herman Plaza! Head out to see the trucks roll up, with its selections of tasty fodder in tow, and dig in!
When: Sunday, November 18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Justin Herman Plaza (across from the ferry building).
Levi’s The Biker with Oil and Leather Exhibit
While it has long been debated whether fashion is truly a form of art, we think this lastest exhibit can be considered Exhibit A in the case’s cross-examination. This Thursday marks the launch of Levi’s The Biker with Oil and Leather presentation, where rockin’ hand-painted moto jackets will be on display, along with other cool duds from the ’50s. Seriously, these rockabilly pieces are so badass, we don’t think the cast of Grease could have pulled 'em off.
When: Thursday, November 15, 7 to 9 p.m.
Where: Levi's, 333 Post Street (between Stockton and Powell streets); 415-397-0631.
