First Look: Uniqlo’s Long-Awaited Union Square Shop

Drumroll, please! After months of anticipation — and even appeasing our impatience with a swanky pop-up and cool campaign — the moment we’ve been waiting with bated breath for is finally here. Well, almost. The first-ever S.F.-based Uniqlo is slated to swing open its sleek doors on Friday, and we were lucky enough to get a little insider glimpse at the sprawling spot, which wowed us with impressive techie features and three floors of color-coded greatness. The 29,000-square-foot space is situated in the old DSW warehouse on 111 Powell Street and takes the retail cake with its glossy, perfectly packaged basics and impeccably dressed, revolving mannequins (91 of them to be exact!). Overall, we were kind of blown away-slash-overwhelmed with the intricate details and functional additions.
From rows and rows of brightly hued bubble jackets to the rainbow LED-lit stairs and an interactive mirror that actually changes the color of your garment in the reflection, this new outpost is the be-all and end-all for your tech- and fashion-centric needs. Since we're on the subject of tech, take a gander at our little Instagram tour and see the vibrant shop for yourself. Plus, mark your calendars for 10 a.m. on Friday, when the shop officially opens to the public — it’s going to be a doozy!
