The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic: People-Watching Paradise

Saturday, June 2 was the annual style fete we all know as the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. With the sun shining, we donned our best Gatsby-inspired garb (in our Senior Editor's case, a killer seersucker short-suit) to ferry it over to Liberty State Park for the big annual event.
Rarely has day-drinking been so glamourous. With what looked like a million bottles of delicious Veuve Clicquot on hand...well...let's just say that with all those bubbles tickling our noses, watching perennial polo star/smokeshow Nacho Figueras do what he does best, looked even hotter than usual.

In-between sighing over Nacho, we took in the sidelines; a scene straight out of a Baz Luhrmann trailer. Onlookers like Poppy Delevigne, Jessica Stam (holy head-to-toe Thom Browne), Olivia Palermo, Clive Owen, and Kelly Framel stole attention from the horses in their roaring '20s finery. But it was really the style stars among the non-celeb civilians who wowed us. Light summer colors, florals, natty blazers, floppy hats, fascinators — for a few sunny hours with flutes of Veuve in our hands, we were in people-watching heaven.
Click on the slideshow to see the preppy boys and beautiful ladies at the event, and remember to "like" Veuve Clicquot on Facebook, and vote for your favorite dapper lad or lady in theirPolo Style Sweeps. The star with most "likes" will win a coveted limited-edition Veuve Clicquot Penelope parasol or a stylish Veuve Clicquot yellow tie, and you'll be entered for a shot at a prize package of Veuve Clicquot goodies so you can have your own day of sun, style, and bubbly in your backyard. Good luck!

While attendee Francesca Cohen isn't wearing a traditional polo look, her natural tones — particularly that top — are a perfect all-event approach to summer style. Take notes.

Jessie Artigue of Style and Pepper apparently knows how much we're feeling classic florals this season. Also note the contrasting hot-red kicks and the adorbs pigtails.

Annika Tibando, designer of her own line, Annika Tibando, rocks boss, black boots — one of our favorite edgy summer looks — with careful accents matching on her splatter-marked summer dress. It's a traditional look made sharp as a knife with a little smattering of leather and punk.

Okay, we don't even know what to say about model Alexandra Aguilera's amazing one-piece, cowboy hat, and single driving glove. Anywhere else those giant round glasses might be too much, but here, they're perfection.

Vivian Weng of FashionStake knows how to play with color in summer — keep it at the edges of your look (here with busy, busy shorts and a pink short jacket), and you can have as much fun as you want. Just keep that center white and simple.

Men always look hot when it seems as if they've just shrugged off their jacket and tie (even if they left them at home). Dominic Ruopp's patterned suspenders and socks help perfect the sexy illusion.
