The Head-To-Toe Guide To V-Day Hotness

Let's put the BS aside for a second and just be frank: Valentine's Day is about looking H-O-T. To save you time and prepping agony (don’t pretend like you actually enjoy that bikini wax), we asked the beauty pros at the Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa in NYC to give us their ultimate get-ready guide for V-Day.
From how to create bedhead-worthy waves to an at-home mask that will make your skin glow like you’ve been gettin’ busy, here are six tips you need to follow, to make your honey weak in the knees.

Hot-To-Trot Hair
"I think tousled hair is very sexy — it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard and has great movement," says Paul Labrecque, a celebrity hairstylist and owner of the Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa. "I would recommend avoiding anything that looks overdone or like you’re heading to a black-tie event."

To get this look, Labrecque says to apply mousse to wet hair, then gently shake out your hair using the low heat setting on your blow-dryer. Then, take a flat iron and a soft hold styling spray (he suggests Paul Labrecque Straight Finish) and flick the iron in different directions to enhance the wave and add body. Shake out your hair one more time after you've gotten dressed, to zhush it up before you walk out the door.

Set-The-Mood Makeup
Makeup artist Taymour Hallal says to pick a look that's on par with what you normally do — you don't want to look like a completely different person to your date. "Whatever your situation is, make sure your makeup is fun and is works to enhance your features," he says. "Makeup should make you look like a prettier version of yourself."

Start with a clean, lightly moisturized face. Apply your base, then add concealer to the eyelid (as an eyeshadow base), under the eyes, on any blemishes, and around the nose. Brush up and shade in your eyebrows using a clean mascara wand and colored eyebrow gel. Apply a light highlighting shadow on the browbone, then use a dark brown color on the lid. Follow with a chocolate brown eyeliner on the bottom lashes and a black eyeliner on the top lashes, making sure to apply the liner as close to the lashes as possible. Finish the eyes with a few coats of mascara. Swipe a pink blush on the apple of your cheeks, then top off your lips with a pinky-brown gloss.

Scarlet Fever
Usually, it's a bad idea to go with a super-pigmented lip on Valentine's Day — you're most likely going to be doing some serious making out, and smeared lipstick can make you look like the Joker at the end of the evening.

If you simply must wear crimson, Hallal says to choose a matte lip color as it's less likely to transfer. “To make a lipstick matte, blot the color with a Kleenex to remove oils and wax, or just use a red lip liner to draw in and fill the lips," he says. "Lip pencils generally tend to contain less wax and more pigment, making them perfect for a matte lip look.”

Glow Baby, Glow
To get your face ready for a special event, aesthetician Nina Patino recommends a two-step treatment that will give you radiant, glowing skin. Take 1 tablespoon of sour cream and 1 teaspoon of baking soda and mix them together. Massage the mix onto your face, neck, décolletage, and top of hands. Leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water. Then, take warm oatmeal, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, and an egg yolk, mix them all together and apply to clean skin, leaving on for 30 minutes.

"This scrub and mask combo will lighten and hydrate your skin," she says. "Sour cream contains lactic acid and baking soda is an anti-bacterial, so they’re perfect to help erase blemishes as well."

Get Nekkid
If you plan on baring it all at the end of the evening (or at the start of the date, you minx you), you want to be sure your body is bangin'. Patino recommends starting a mini detox treatment a few weeks before the big day (aka, now). Combine used ground coffee, olive oil, fresh lemon juice, and a few drops of cognac into a paste. Massage it into skin using exfoliating gloves. Do this until your body feels hot — about 5-10 minutes. Gently pinch your thighs, butt, and stomach until skin is red and itchy, then rinse off the concoction using warm water (no soap!). Follow up by drinking a cup of organic green tea. Do this once a week in the days leading up to your big date for skin that looks and feels amazing.

Pucker Up
To soften lips and give them a natural plumping effect, Patino says to open a vitamin E capsule and squeeze it into a saucer. Add a bit of sugar and a tiny dash of red pepper. Mix this into a paste and put it on an old toothbrush, which you can use to massage it into your lips. The end result is a pout that's full, lush, and ready to be smooched.
