Celebrities Are Serving Up Some Serious Looks At This Year's Emmys

Even if you've traded in your cable box for an Apple TV and Netflix subscription, you know we're living in a golden age of television — and that's what makes this year's Emmy Awards all the more exciting. The annual event is a treasured red carpet moment of awards season — where silver screen stars get many-a fashion moments during whirlwind press tours and international premieres, television stars typically rev up for one main event. And while we can lament that this red carpet isn't always the most exciting, thanks to shows like Stranger Things and Black-ish, we're expecting a line-up of style-minded celebrities who'll bring their fashion A-game.

There's nothing awkward about this look. Issa Rae's custom Vera Wang gown has us wondering if we should go red over white when saying yes to the American designer's dresses.

The liquid metallic trend is strong on the carpet this year. In a multi-tone custom Sachi and Babi gown, Anna Chlumsky is taking the award for best execution yet.

We're torn between how much we love Millie Bobby Brown's Calvin Klein by Appointment poofy princess dress and those studded ruby kitten heels. Is there anything she can't wear?

Kiernan Shipka's Miu Miu gown is a grown-up's prom dress dream. It also makes us jealous that we're not part of the cool-kid, Gen-Z, fashion club.

The unexpected highlight of Laverne Cox's Naeem Khan dress? The ruffled straps add a little feminine offset to the edgy chainmail texture.

What's more on-point than Uzo Aduba in Sally Lapointe? Definitely not our attempt at puns. But we can confidently claim that this is her best red carpet look, ever.

Rounding up another member of the Z-list princess club! Yara Shahidi is admittedly one of our favorite celebrities and one of the freshest additions to the fashion crowd. That being said, it's no surprise she's decked in custom Prada.

If Elisabeth Moss' 2016-2017 style evolution could be summed up in two images, it'd be a flashback to her highlighter pink strapless dress from last year's Emmys, and a picture from tonight. This year's baby pink strapless Prabal Gurung number is a lesson that outfit-repeating can totally be chic.

Hitting the crux of her revival, Mandy Moore is all about making a statement right now. And this three-tier gown from Carolina Herrera is helping her do just that.

Tracee Ellis Ross in this Chanel Haute Couture gown? No duo has brought such sparkly tears to our eyes. (And in case you have any doubts, just peek this Instagram post).

Zoe Kravitz: Queen of our hearts, queen of one of our favorite shows of the year (shout-out to Big Little Lies), and queen of making a rainbow feathered Dior dress look like a showstopper.

If there was ever a day we'd use the words 'rainbow fish chic' in the most complimentary way possible, this is it. Dressed in Rosie Assoulin, Tessa Thompson is a multi-colored dream.

Shailene Woodley was one of the few to go unembellished this evening, making her velvet green Ralph Lauren dress stand out all the more.

There's always at least one representative of Old Hollywood glamour, and this year's winner is, of course, Nicole Kidman in an ankle-length red dream from Calvin Klein by Appointment.

How many times can we look at a silver sequined gown this evening and still be in love? Apparently, there is no limit. Sarah Paulson makes our list almost every red carpet appearance due to her admiration for risk-taking pieces — like this big-shouldered disco dream from Carolina Herrera's spring 2018 collection.

Usually we're on the hunt for the best blazer/pants combination we can find. But Claire Foy did us one better with a jumpsuit from Oscar de la Renta. That one arm cape proves the star is regal both on- and off- screen.

The hot pink dress (courtesy of Brandon Maxwell)! The perfect blonde ponytail! The impeccable chicness of it all! Jane Fonda is still in the game, folks.

We've yet to find a suit Evan Rachel Wood doesn't love, but this one goes in the books as being extra-special. A collaborative design effort with Jeremy Scott, the Westworld star has hit peak tuxedo with a custom all-white, wide-legged number we're hoping makes a similar appearance down Moschino's next runway.

We frequently do a double-take whenever Mackenzie Davis walks the red carpet. She has a knack for picking some of the fashion industry's favorite designer looks, like this lime green number from Delpozo's 2018 resort line.

It's rare we spot a Balmain look on the red carpet and it's not on a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Well, Priyanka Chopra knows how to rock a feathered bodycon gown just as well as the next woman.

We're cheering as hard as Leslie Jones was at last week's Christian Siriano show. Her enthusiasm for his latest collection naturally meant she'd be wearing one of his designs on tonight's red carpet. We're obsessed with this friendship.

Viola Davis loves good color moment, and this orange Zac Posen gown was the epitome of what she does best on the red carpet.

Here's to our biggest surprise of the night! We could give you ten guesses as to who Kathryn Hahn chose to wear for the evening and odds are you'd still be off. Say hello to her gorgeous vintage Courrèges dress from 1969, courtesy of Shrimpton Couture.

Feathered drop hems were one of our favorite outfit add-ons of the evening (we still haven't cooled down from Tracee Ellis Ross' Chanel appearance). Laura Dern's tiered Proenza Schouler option, while a honorable mention in the aforementioned category, deserves major love.

This. Whole. Look. Gabrielle Union in lacy Zuhair Murad reminds us that black dresses don't need to be super-simple.
