Is This Major Serial Spoiler Going To Ruin Everything?

The team at Serial seem pretty pissed about others revealing their season 2 secrets. Frankly, we are a bit, too. Oh, and if you hate spoilers of any kind, stop reading now. NPR's Emily Condon issued this statement to Maxim after it reported that the popular podcast would be featuring the case of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for its next season. The Hollywood Reporter has since confirmed the storyline, but Condon was understandably upset about spoilers getting out. "We'd very much appreciate if fellow journalists would give us some room and not feel the need to attempt to dig into and try to figure out what you think we might be doing, especially since we're actively reporting stories, and having a bunch of wild speculation out there makes our job reporting harder," Condon told Maxim. "Doesn't feel very menschy. In any case, here's what I can tell you: The Serial staff is currently working on several things simultaneously: Season 2, Season 3, and some other podcast projects. For now we're not talking publicly about anything that we're working on." Well, the cat's out of the bag now. Following host Sarah Koenig's investigation of Adnan Syed's murder conviction, the show will explore Bergdahl's disappearance and eventual imprisonment by Taliban allies in Afghanistan for five years. Bergdahl, who was returned to the U.S. in a prisoner swap in May 2014, had a preliminary hearing about a potential court-martial in San Antonio last week. According to Maxim's sources, both Koenig and Zero Dark Thirty writer Mark Boal were in attendance. Boal and film partner Kathryn Bigelow are said to be making a film about Bergdahl, with Boal contributing research to the Serial team. Maxim also spoke to former members of Bergdahl's unit, who expressed their disappointment in his participation with the show, branding it a "nifty diorama for hipsters to marvel at." Don't worry — we're sure they didn't mean you.
