A new doggie styling trend isn't the safest way to give your pet a new look. Right now on Instagram it's all about the #DogBun. Though the pups rocking these buns are undeniably adorable, your dog's ears shouldn't be bound by an elastic hair tie. According to Dr. Ann Hohenhaus, who works at New York City's Animal Medical Center, "Pet owners should never use rubber bands or hair clips to pull back dog ears– as these could interrupt blood supply and cause serious damage to the ears, potentially leading to ear flap amputation. On occasion, a soft cloth band (eg: hair scrunchies) can be used.”
Of course if your dog has enough fluff on top of their head, go for the cute bun. It's just best to leave the ears out of it. And if you still crave a new look for your short-haired best friend, there are options.
