Jaime Pressly’s Take On A French Braid Is Totally Badass

Braids are a timeless hairstyle — but they can become real boring, real quick. There are only so many times you can wear a waterfall braid (perhaps to hide the fact that you haven't washed your hair in a while, no judgment) before it starts to get a little old. That's why when we saw Jaime Pressly's latest 'do on the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet, we did a serious double-take. When you first see it from the front, it looks like your typical, everyday French braid. But when she turns around, you see how cool the style really is. Since the sides of Pressly's hair are much shorter than the top portion, it gives the braid a standalone, bouffant moment that's equal parts innovative and glam. "We wanted something glamorous, but with a twist," says hairstylist Jonathan Hanousek. "She loves her hair sleek, but I wanted to see some texture, so I created her braided hawk." To create the style, he French-braided the top of the head, with medium tension, securing it with a clear Blax band, tucking the ends of the hair under, and securing them with bobby pins. Next, he used more pins throughout the braid to help tighten and to allow the hair to lay flat against the head. Then he gently pulled out the front part of the hair to add height and texture. He finished the look with Biosilk's Silk Therapy Finishing Spray Firm Hold to smooth the shorter sides. It's a new, edgy take on the French braid that we definitely never saw coming — and a style that all of the ladies out there with tapered mohawk cuts like Pressly's can experiment with. Try it, and you'll be the most badass milkmaid on the block.
