Sixteen-year-old actress Amandla Stenberg is known for her role as Rue, the haunting young fellow tribute Katniss befriends and attempts to protect in the first film of The Hunger Games series, but she's also a teenager, and like most teenagers, she went to prom. Yes, little Rue is all grown up (and gorgeous), and she went to the prom with Jaden Smith.
On Friday, Stenberg Instagramed a few charming pre-prom photos of herself and fellow sixteen-year-old Jaden, son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, getting ready for the festivities; she with long flowing braids and shining bronze dress, he in a black blazer atop a long, black and cream shift dress and skinny black pants accessorized with casual sneakers and a white and gold fingerless glove on one hand. Smith is certainly no stranger to fun fashion. Earlier this month, in fact, he escorted date Mecca Kalani to prom wearing a white Batman costume (and yes, it was the same costume he wore to the Kimye nuptials).
Stenberg, who proudly discussed the intersection of hairstyles and black culture in a video titled, “Don’t Cash Crop My Cornrows: A Crash Discourse On Black Culture,” documented the pairs fun night in a series of Instagrams including a close-up shot of Smith sniffing his white rose and baby's breath boutonnière and a darkened mirror shot from inside the festivities.
