Taylor Swift Calls Tween Fan Battling Terminal Cancer

Emily Beazley is a 12-year-old girl from Chicago who has been battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma for years. Last week, doctors told her family that there was nothing more they could do. Her chemotherapy has stopped, though she continues to attend radiation treatments for the pain. The Beazleys and Emily's loved ones have a hard road ahead. In some ways, though, Emily is just an average tween. One of her life's great wishes was to meet or talk to her musical idol — and this week, that dream was fulfilled. Nadia Beazley, Emily’s mom, confirmed to NBC Chicago that — after countless attempts to get in touch with the “Style” singer — Taylor Swift gave Emily a ring. The first call came in at 4:30, while Emily was in radiation, so Swift phoned back around 5pm. The family was in the car together, and Beazley said her daughter was “star-struck” during the 10-minute chat. Emily told the singer how much she loves her songs, and Swift told Emily that she knew all about her story — her cancer, her favorite colors, the fact that a Chicago block was recently named in her honor. "The smile on my daughter [is one] I have not seen in a very, very long time," Nadia Beazley told NBC. "I could cry." Honestly, so could we; we’re equally touched by this story and Swift’s outreach to this brave young lady. We’re also certain Emily’s story hit close to home for Swift: Earlier this month, the singer revealed that her mom is going through her own cancer battle. We're thinking about both the Beazley and Swift families — and hoping that this phone call brought some sunshine to both.
