You Can Now Send Friends Cash Through Facebook

In an attempt to make Facebook Messenger a little more likable (and a little less annoying, seeing as you can't see messages in the normal Facebook app anymore), the social media giant is rolling out a new feature to its dwindling user base: you can now send and receive cash from friends.  (We can just hear Justin Timberlake saying, "A million dollars isn't cool, you know what's cool? Sending a million dollars to friends.")  Need to pay back a bud for that time you left your wallet at home and she spotted you for an all-you-can-eat sushi dinner? Done. According to the company announcement, you just need to add a Visa or Mastercard debit card to your existing Facebook account, compose a message to said friend, tap the $ icon, enter the amount, then hit "Pay." Easy-peasy, and all for free. As for timing: "It may take one to three business days to make the money available to you depending on your bank, just as it does with other deposits," the company writes.  Now, we're not sure if the feature will be more user-friendly than established cash-swapping vendors like Venmo, PayPal, or Dwolla, but it does seem like a way to get the finicky Messenger back in our good graces. But, seeing as the tool won't be available to U.S. users for another few months, we're predicting a slow romance.
