If the Academy Awards mark the end of the 2015 awards show season, then last night’s BRIT Awards served as an encore of sorts. The annual London event honors the biggest achievements in both music and fashion, a crossover factor that makes the outfit choices much more interesting than your average red carpet looks.
Just take both industries' newest darling, FKA twigs, who set the sartorial bar high in an intricately embellished Alexander McQueen spring 2015 dress. Always one to shake things up, she wore the piece as a tunic over a pair of flared trousers. This is a girl who can make pretty much anything — including Google Glass — look cool. So, what else would you expect?
She wasn't the only style standout. Janelle Monáe's velvet Emporio Armani pantsuit gave her tried-and-true look a chic revamp, whereas Ellie Goulding ditched her black-leather uniform in favor of a stunning Alberta Ferretti gown. The biggest surprise of the night came when two of music and fashion's most famous good girls, Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift, dipped their toes into edgy territory and — surprise! — totally pulled it off.
