The Actually Functional Way To Drape A Coat Over Your Shoulders

If you've ever looked at someone with a jacket draped over their shoulders and were entirely puzzled by the idea, you're not alone. As chic and effortless as fashion people make it seem, it's not really. (Just try keeping anything balanced on your shoulders when a gust of wind sweeps off the Hudson, and your hands are already occupied holding a coffee and a clutch.) But, Tibi's fall '15 collection brought a solution for our caped-coat ambitions.
Where the swing of a cape but the tailoring — and arm holes — of a jacket combine is where the beauty of Tibi's answer lies. Shown in three renditions on yesterday's runway, this new outerwear option for autumn provides a relaxed, nonchalantly swaying sleeve as well as a double-breasted, borrowed-from-the-boys fit. Designer Amy Smilovic is already known for delivering unfussy, functional, and undoubtedly cool garments, so it's only fitting that she's made it possible for women to enjoy the casual, chic styling trick without having to clutch their collars at the slightest breeze.
