Joni Mitchell Tells Harrowing Tale Of Being Chanel-Shamed

Are badass old broads officially taking over fashion? Between Joan Didion's Céline ads (a.k.a., the campaign that launched a thousand think pieces), Joni Mitchell's recent modeling turn for Saint Laurent, and New York Magazine making Mitchell the cover star for its spring fashion issue, one could certainly make the case.
The issue, on newsstands today, boasts an interview in which Mitchell holds forth in her typically no-bullshit way on all manner of dishy topics. There's her take on the Taylor Swift dust-up: "I don’t know what her music sounds like, but I do know that if she’s going to sing and play me, good luck." And, the time Warren Beatty tried to shame her for carrying a Chanel bag in the hippie-chick, dress-down '70s (predictably, Mitchell gave no fucks).
As for Hedi Slimane’s clothing for Saint Laurent, Mitchell offers a typically non-fawning appraisal: “[They're] not innovative, but really good to wear, the kinds of things I’ve worn at one time or another in my life.” Try getting anything other than breathless praise out of the next designer muse.
