Julia Roberts To Star In Batkid Film, Steal Our Hearts

Our hearts are still swollen with joy from 2013’s wish celebrated around the globe,
when the Bay Area came together to help turn 5-year-old leukemia patient Miles Scott’s Make-A-Wish request — to be Batkid — into
reality.

It
was one of the biggest Make-A-Wish
projects in history: San Francisco was transformed into Gotham City,
complete with appearances by the Joker, the Riddler, and Batman himself.
Some 10,000 people participated in the staged event, following a major
call to action via social media. Miles was presented with a key to the
city by Mayor Ed Lee. The Chronicle ran
a Gotham City edition with the headline, "Batkid Saves City: Hooded
hero nabs Riddler, rescues damsel in distress." Even President Obama was
rooting for Miles Scott. It was one of the most inspiring narratives
of all time.

Happily, Scott's
cancer has been in remission since his last treatment. But, the event
was so moving that it spawned a documentary, BatKid Begins: The Wish Heard Around The World, which tells the story of the young cancer patient and the kindhearted
volunteers who brought his wish to life. Now, it appears that Scott’s
tale will be going to Hollywood. It was announced this week that Julia
Roberts has signed on to produce and star in a scripted version of the
story, inspired by the documentary, along with the original film's
director, Dana Nachman.

Nachman told Deadline:
"It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film
and were so moved by it." This isn’t the first time Scott
has gotten the star treatment; according to Deadline, the poster for
the documentary was designed by famed Star Wars artist Drew Struzan.

It
has not yet been announced what role Roberts will play, but you can bet
that we will be seeing this movie on opening day. Now, please excuse us
while our hearts continue to explode.
