• 7:00 a.m. EST, January 8, 2015
A quick note to say that NBC has retracted the below report. As of now, there is one suspect in custody, who turned himself in, and the manhunt continues for two more gunmen. We will be posting a full update later this morning.
• 7:00 p.m. ESTNBC News and other outlets are reporting that two of the suspects are in custody and a third has been killed. The two men who have been arrested are reportedly French, with ties to a Yemeni terrorist network.

The attack left 12 people dead, including police officers and editors and cartoonists on the staff of Charlie Hebdo.
• 12:00 p.m. EST Twelve people have been killed in an act of terrorism at the offices of a satirical newspaper in Paris. Gunmen armed with automatic weapons attacked the office of Charlie Hebdo. Two policemen were among those killed.
Three shooters fled the scene and have not been found, though a massive manhunt is underway.
The magazine's editor-in-chief Stephane Charbonnier is among those killed. In 2012 interview he gave with ABC he talks about why he values free speech. "We can’t live in a country without freedom of speech. I prefer to die than to live like a rat," he said.
• UPDATE: The FBI has confirmed that the attack on the NAACP in Colorado Springs this morning was deliberate. The bomb didn't do more damage because a gasoline tank next to the device failed to explode.
10:30 a.m. EST An improvised explosive device exploded outside the offices of the NAACP in Colorado Springs on Tuesday. The bomb didn't detonate properly and the damage was minimal, but the FBI is investigating the event as a possible act of terrorism against the civil rights group.
• A federal court of appeals in New Orleans is once again taking up a controversial Texas law. Today, it is hearing arguments over a portion of the law that would require the state's clinics to meet the standards of hospital-style surgical centers. Proponents say the measure protects women's safety, but opponents say the law is designed to create impossible requirements that most of the state's clinics would unable to meet.
• The tail of AirAsia Flight 8501 has been found in the Java Sea, and officials believe it may contain the flight's black box, which could provide crucial information about how and why the plane went down last week.
