Keira Knightley is sick of the false portrayals of female bodies we so often see in the media. The actress has famously spoken out in the past when her chest was enhanced on the poster for 2004's King Arthur. Now, she's taking a stand against the manipulation of all women's bodies, not just her own.
Knightley went topless for a recent Interview magazine photoshoot. She had one request for her decision. "I said, 'Okay, I'm fine doing the topless shot as long as you don't make them bigger or retouch.' Because it does feel important to say it really doesn't matter what shape you are," the Daily Mail reports the actress telling The Times about the shoot. "I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters," Knightley said of her rationale.

She thinks it's important to keep photographs truthful to avoid unrealistic body expectations. "I think women’s bodies are a battleground, and photography is partly to blame. Our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape."
Knightley is the second actress to speak out against Hollywood image ideals in the past few weeks. In October, Amanda Seyfried tweeted, "Fun fact: I almost lost out on several roles in my career because I was overweight. Wrong, America." Wrong, anyone who ever communicated to another human being that her body was an incorrect or undesirable shape or size. (Daily Mail)
