Only Oscar de la Renta could bring together such an extensive group of leaders from the worlds of fashion, entertainment, and politics. On Monday, family and friends gathered at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola on the Upper East Side to bid one final, glamorous farewell to one of the most influential — and elegant — designers to have ever lived.
The intimate, hour-long service included readings by former Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and Henry Kissinger, Anna Wintour, and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg. Barbara Walters (who was frequently seen in the front row of de la Renta's runway shows), former first lady Laura Bush, designers Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren, and actors Matthew Broderick and Hugh Jackman were among the attendees. Honorary ushers included Moises de la Renta (the late designer's son), Charlie Rose, and Julio Iglesias.
