Rad Or Bad: Alexa Chung’s Kindergarten Braids

There are very few things I question when it comes to Alexa Chung. My Pinterest is full of her street style snaps, I've showed a photo of her to my hairstylist for every cut in the past three years, and I have a copy of It nestled between the coffee-table books on my bar cart. I'm pretty much on board with everything she does. Still, the pigtail braids she wore at Topshop Unique's show during London Fashion Week gave me pause. Is this a rare misstep for Ms. Chung, Queen of Indie Girls?
The duo of plaits is a style lots of us loved during our grade-school years. But, once we hit high school, we pretty much put 'em on the bench. They can look juvenile and a bit twee — not something we were going for in that awkward "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" phase. We know better than anyone that your hair and makeup are no indication of your competence, maturity, or skills in the real world — but, even we think it's hard to take someone seriously with bow-tied braids in their hair.

With that said, we still think Alexa looks damn good with this 'do. She put her own spin on it, keeping the bangs messy, leaving a few loose curls in front, and tying each end with a flesh-toned (rather than pastel or primary-colored) ribbon. It's a gamine-meets-sexy-bedhead take on pigtails, which, until now, we didn't even realize was possible. On her, this kind of works. For the rest of us? The jury is still out.
Are you feeling Alexa's braids? Or, do you think these are best left to #tbts and embarrassing photos your mom likes to pull out around the holidays? Sound off below.
