Beyoncé's Clothes Get To Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Before She Does

Being Beyoncé is not enough to get the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to break its hard-and-fast rules. Or, most of them anyway. While the singer won't be eligible for induction until at least 2022 (and that's just for Destiny's Child, since you need to wait 25 years from your first album), she was able to get into an exhibit that will feature some of her most iconic outfits. They've been selected to hang in the museum's Legends of Rock section — one previously reserved for Hall of Famers.

Her costumes from both the "Single Ladies" video and "Crazy in Love," along with the Givenchy dress she wore to the 2012 Met Gala, and the body suit, skirt, and jacket she performed in at the 2013 Super Bowl will rub hangers with pieces from legends like Michael Jackson, David Bowie, and Bruce Springsteen. "We felt that (she) really needed to take her rightful place alongside Aretha Franklin and the Supremes and Janis Joplin," said Rock Hall curator Meredith Rutledge-Borger.

If it sounds like an attempt to get young people interested in a museum in Ohio, it's because it is. Rutledge-Borger noted rock's "intergenerational appeal" and said, "We want to make sure we're hitting all the right notes and keeping up with what's happening today and what's legendary today."
