Meet The World's Ugliest Dog

"He's just hideous," one judge said. Another likened his tail to a tube of lipstick. But, when all was said and done yesterday, it was Peanut who got the last laugh (and a $1,500 prize).

Blessed with a face that only an adoptive parent could love, the Chihuahua-Shih Tzu mix claimed the title of World's Ugliest Dog 2014. Though a bulldog mix with a spinal deformity and the moniker of Quasi Modo gave him a run for his money, it was Peanut's scruffy look, jutting-out teeth, and always-open eyelids that gave him the edge.

After spending nine months languishing in an animal shelter, the pup was adopted by Holly Chandler of Greenville, North Carolina a year ago. Luckily, Chandler wasn't put off by his grisly appearance, though judge Brian Sobel called him "one of the ugliest dogs we have ever judged in this contest."

Having beat out Quasi Modo and a Mohawked, freckled Chinese Crested-Chihuahua mix named Sweetpee Rambo, Peanut can now enjoy all the pet treats and bones $1,500 can buy. Or, maybe a trip to the doggie dentist is in order? (The Press Democrat)
