Photo: Courtesy of GQ.Move over, metrosexuals. There's a new male species in town, and he's called "the spornosexual." According to Mark Simpson, the journalist who coined the term "metrosexual" two decades ago, the spornosexual is a beefier, hypersexualized version of its urbane counterpart.
"With their painstakingly pumped and chiseled bodies, muscle-enhancing tattoos, piercings, adorable beards and plunging necklines, it’s eye-catchingly clear that second-generation metrosexuality is less about clothes than it was for the first," Simpson writes in London’s Daily Telegraph. "Eagerly self-objectifying, second generation metrosexuality is totally tarty."
Simpson posits that spornosexuals are a new breed obsessed with sport and porn — the kind of man who prefers to be desired for what he looks like, rather than what's inside. "Their own bodies...have become the ultimate accessories," Simpson adds. To better put the spornosexual into context, we've compiled a short list of men who fit Simpson's criteria: Colin Kaepernick, Christiano Ronaldo, Justin Bieber, and Drake.
