Let's Talk About How Much NYC Weddings Cost
comments

Now, a parade of facts to back this up: The average American wedding spend in 2012 was $27,427 (the median was $18,086), according to Slate. For New Yorkers, the news is even worse: The average NYC wedding price tag was $76,687. And, because you are not Kimye, you can't go the news-sell route for extra cash. (You could, however, sacrifice your first dance to the viral YouTube gods and "surprise" everyone with a flash mob. But, Internet stardom is neither realistic nor advised — the 'net is for cats.)
Marche points out that — especially with that kind of money and the countless hours and energy put into wedding planning — two kids in love could do something more productive than digging a hole of debt in the name of publicly declaring their affection. But, that's the slightly cynical point of view, because everyone knows that weddings aren't really about the people getting married. Weddings are essentially a series of challenges, in which guests put forward their best skills in dancing, cake eating, and combining their friends' names into one, unifying, marriage hashtag.
Anyway, y'all are spending a lot of money to get hitched. (Esquire)
