Orange Is The New Black Wins GLAAD Award

On Saturday, The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation held its 25th annual Media Awards in New York. Among the many winners was Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, which took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Several of the show's cast members accepted the award, though it doesn't appear like Taystee had the opportunity to drop one of her classic barbecue sauce lines.
Philomena also won an award for Outstanding Film (Wide Release). On the TV front, Oprah received a nod for her show with openly gay NBA player Jason Collins. See all of the winners here.

In addition to the accolades for film, TV, and journalism, GLAAD also bestows honors on people who have helped to promote LGBT equality in the media. Last night, Star Trek actor and Facebook favorite George Takei took home the Vito Russo Award for his work. In the Los Angeles version of the GLAAD event in April, Ellen Page presented an award to Orange Is the New Black's Laverne Cox for her role in spreading understanding about transgender issues. Check out Cox's moving speech below.
