Too Many People Are Naming Their Kids “Kale”

Don't get us wrong, we adore the kale. It's on every restaurant menu, in every fresh-pressed juice, even in our parents' fridge. We eat it and love it. But, the line should really be drawn somewhere — like, at baby names. Yes, apparently more and more people are thinking the lush, leafy green makes a perfect moniker for their generation-Z offspring. No, sorry guys, it does not.
Bon Appétit took a look at some recently released 2012 name statistics from the Social Security Administration and found that 335 boys and 11 girls were named Kale that year. Agriculture-rich California is mostly responsible for all the little, green (named) monsters running around. The upside to this strange nomenclature? Perhaps hearing their name all the time will influence the kiddos to make more health-conscious life decisions.
It was only a matter of time. Parents are also naming girls after the Game of Thrones character Khaleesi, which, now that we think of it, would be a great middle name for little Kale. Head over to Bon Appétit for more name ideas from the produce aisle. (Bon Appétit)
