Thought Man on Wire was vertigo-inducing? This video of two daredevils BASE jumping off the Freedom Tower just might have topped it. If you can handle a spinning head and a churning stomach, it makes for incredible viewing.
Shot last September, the video shows three men psyching themselves up with a quick prayer, a few deep breaths, and the mantra, "You got this, man," before leaping off the building. Thanks to a helmet cam, we can experience the plummet for ourselves and take in the unbelievable views (Ooh, look! Whole Foods!). Strangely, the jumper with the helmet cam doesn't make a single peep during his death-defying leap.
Though the men landed safely, they and a fourth accomplice were arrested yesterday and face charges of burglary, reckless endangerment, and additional violations. "These men violated the law and placed themselves, as well as others, in danger," police commissioner William Bratton tells Metro. "These arrests should send a message to anyone thinking about misusing a landmark this way. They will be tracked down and they will face serious charges. Being a thrill-seeker does not give immunity from the law."
Given this stunt and a previous incident in which a teenage boy climbed up the WTC undetected, the building may want to beef up security. Let this be a lesson to daredevils...and security professionals. (Elite Daily)
