The sun may be shining in Chicago today, but the barometer is currently still in the negative. That is, until it reaches a balmy six degrees this afternoon. And, while schools are closed for the second day in a row, those in the adult world are struggling to get to work on time. But, it isn't just the extra layers of clothing that are setting folks back. It's the mechanical hiccups of the public transportation system. According to NBC Chicago, Metra is fueling up early and letting the trains run to avoid as many delays as possible. "When it's this cold, the equipment just doesn't want to cooperate," one worker told NBC Chicago.
The report below shows how the CTA is taking measures to keep its trains running by using diesel-powered machines and scrapers to keep the tracks clean. The clip also provides a few tips for those brave enough to take their cars out in these conditions — especially with all of that black ice. But, keep a cold brave face Windy City dwellers.
