There's no denying that a good start-up story is inspiring — kind of like The Little Engine That Could for adults. A successful tech company is, after all, the culmination of creativity, passion, drive, and a ton of hard work. What's not to love?

Here at R29, we're pretty partial to fashion start-ups (can you blame us?). And, we're even prouder when those landscape-changing initiatives are homegrown. Sure, D.C. doesn't have the tech prowess of Silicon Valley or the style cred of NYC — that's why it's so much more exciting when a fashion start-up takes hold here.

So, we'd like to take a moment to shine some well-deserved light on the brilliant fashion-meets-tech operations doing big things right here in the District. These companies can compete with the best of 'em, and will make the way you dress and shop a whole lot easier. Get ready to bookmark like crazy!
