When it comes to our New Year's Eve beauty game, the '90s revival of late 2013 is simply not going to cut it. It's just the wrong decade for festive inspiration, and even we of the muddy lipstick and moody eyes are willing to admit it. So, we're wondering if the producers of American Hustle had this in mind when they picked the film's release date. They must have known the timing was right, because suddenly, as we plan our New Year's Eve outfits, all we can think about is that huge '70s hair.
Lucky for us, the New York Times has a video tutorial on exactly how to achieve that fabulous 'do, as well as interviews with the movie's hair and makeup experts. And, according to them, the '70s look isn't going to be just this year's go-to NYE look. As the Times reports, Evelyne Noraz, the department head of makeup for American Hustle, said, "I’ve really noticed the ’70s coming back in makeup in general. It was easy for me to just walk in the store and pick up items whose colors worked for the time.”
We're not sure how we feel about an impending '70s beauty trend. But, as of this moment, we feel totally okay about following this video's instructions to watch the ball drop. Check it out, and let us know if it has you feeling newly inspired as well. (New York Times)
